Creative Reflection: Nature-Inspired Journaling Prompts

What if creative writing inspires creative reflection to explore our inner terrain? If you are new to journaling or find yourself writing that feels like a chore, consider exploring nature-inspired journaling prompts. Why? Immersing ourselves in Nature, whether it is recognizing the environment surrounding us, the weather, the season, flora and fauna, we provide ourselves the opportunity to take a break from being preoccupied with the mind space. It is ultimately giving ourselves permission to get really good at being observant and focusing on what Nature is offering in the moment. With that, there is space for possibility to observe parallels or new insights from Nature that reflect our inner world or inspire us to shift and reflect what we are admiring in Nature. In observing elements of Nature, we strengthen our capacity to reflect internally on our thoughts, feelings, and experiences through a nonjudgmental lens which can support self-discovery and personal growth: Easing into Our Light.

Some examples of journaling prompts include:

  1. "North, South, East, and West, what do your directions encompass?"

  2. "Dear [Season Name], what wisdom would you like to offer me?"

  3. "[Tree, Bird, Flower, Squirrel, or anything you notice], what does home mean to you?"

  4. "Sky, I see [describe what you see in the sky]. What qualities make you vast?"

I've included below my response to Prompt 2 as an example.

Dear Autumn,

What wisdom would you like to offer me? I sense transformation in the air. I see it in the trees. I notice transformation is lovely in its imperfections. Thank you for reminding me of this. The multicolored leaves, although not fully transformed into their autumn hue yet, are beautiful and vibrant just as they are, here and now, and continue to transform in alignment with Nature's Divine Timing.

I sense there is safety in releasing and admiring the process of letting go. Thank you for exemplifying this. With every leaf that floats freely. That, non-attachment and impermanence are healthy and natural.

I sense you help enliven the Joy in change. The appreciation for Abundance (I love pumpkins and pumpkin spice, yes). Being You.

Love in Being,

Maral
